One of Us, 2022 - Ongoing

Paul, William and Giuseppe have all moved to the UK from different countries in Europe searching for a better life.  This ongoing project is about their everyday lives as immigrants in London during a time where Britain decided to exit the EU and restrict free movement from the continent.   Immigration, housing issues, loneliness and dreams are elements I try to emphasise in my project, showing personal stories of individuals who are struggling to achieve their ambitions.

Inspired by the work of W. Eugene Smith, Dennis Stock and Jim Mortram, I intend to show compassion and intimacy. The use of a wide-angle lens helps me to come closer to my subjects, offering the viewer a stronger sense of involvement in the story.  Proximity to the people in the frame for me is a means to find a better and more profound understanding of human connections and what brings us together.

Loosely inspired by the 1932 movie ‘Freaks’, the title ‘One of Us’ wants to discuss the same profound sentiments of understanding and acceptance of difference.
