Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) grows outside the uterus. Common symptoms include pelvic pain outside of menstruation, severe menstrual cramps, pain during bowel movements, fatigue, constipation, nausea, and pain during sexual intercourse.

I discovered that treating this condition involves not just visiting gynaecologists, but also pain specialists, nutritionists, and psychologists.  It cannot be seen with the naked eye but can be profoundly felt.  Its symptoms are similar to other conditions, making it difficult to diagnose; it can take 5 to 7 years.  The delays in correct diagnosis often lead to invasive treatments, such as hormonal therapies, surgeries, extensive pain medication, and fertility treatments. It is crucial to raise awareness about endometriosis and essential to advocate for further research, so that women do not have to wait so long for a definitive diagnosis and for better treatment options to improve their quality of life.

I wanted to highlight this issue because after many years of suffering, I am still seeking a correct diagnosis for my condition. Through my images, I aim to reflect on the experiences of women who like me suffer in silence and endure both physical and mental pain.
