Our House, 2021
‘Our House’ explores the connection between a mother and her daughters, highlighting the many differences and similarities of every family member with a close focus on each pair of eyes. The photographs descend down from my mother’s eyes in age order to symbolise how we are all a part of her in some way.
As an artist I enjoy focusing on the small details; whether it be a specific feature of the face, a small section of a landscape or perhaps a particular body part that I feel is often overlooked. In this instance, I want the audience to be captured by each individual gaze and get lost in the stories they tell.
My work shows that even though we are independent from one another, likely to pursue very different paths in life, there is a connection that will remain within us regardless of time, distance and whatever the future may hold. A connection to which, I hope, many of us can relate.
