Daffodils, 2023
In this triptych, I was inspired by the Sandro Botticelli’s painting ‘The Birth of Venus’ (1480s) and wanted to create a present-day allegory loosely based on it.
Botticelli’s painting features Venus, the Goddess of Beauty emerging from the sea. In my work, I asked my mother to stand in for her, she is holding daffodils as they are the flower of March. The daffodils end up in the sea to alert us to the decline of balance and beauty in nature, due to global warming and deforestation.
