Dancing with myself , 2025

Dance is about movement, expression, and storytelling, the industry still favours one type of body; thin, long, and light. Dancers who don’t fit this mould, no matter how talented, are often pushed aside, told they don’t belong, or denied opportunities.
This isn’t just about looks, it’s the system that decides who gets leading roles, better training, and even costumes that fit. Bigger-bodied dancers are often seen as less graceful or capable, even when they have the same skill and passion as their peers. Dance is for everyone. A dancer’s worth should not be judged by size but by their ability to move, express, and connect.
This project challenges these unfair standards: who gets to decide what a dancer should look like? By highlighting these, we shine a light on all bodies in motion, proving that dance is not just for a select few. It’s time for the industry to change, to make space for everybody, and to celebrate the beauty of all who move.

This project is a living entity, fuelled by organic unpredictability and intuitive experimentation. In this first public outing, its spaces of encounter are split between this library section and an installation showcasing a bigger selection of handprints of my potato plant, inviting a possibility of slowing down as we consider ideas of nurture, growth and self-discovery.
