The New Normal, 2021

In this project, I focus on the issues caused by the lockdown and how it affected the way in which we interact with each other. Due to the restrictions we have all experienced, I decided to adopt techniques commonly used in the film industry to circumvent issues and obstacles caused by the pandemic and to create a body of work that incorporates portraits with computer-generated locations.

Along with my long-standing passion for photography, I have for many years been interested in computer 3D modelling and how it can be used to extend our ideas. Until now I have kept them separate never considering combining the two.

Using these techniques, I have set out to create a series of images that focus on how we had to adapt from genuine face-to-face encounters to a digital, synthetic interaction, in which software gives us options to alter and even enhance the experience.
