Deceiving The Eye, 2021

Deceiving The Eye aims to explore the ethics of wildlife photography. Photographed in London and Barcelona Zoos it showcases animals from two different points of view. On one side we observe a sense of natural beauty, befitting these majestic and memorable animals, while on the other side we see the reality of how the animals live enclosed in a zoo.

My aim is to open up a conversation and reflect on the way we try to beautify the existence of animals that are caged in zoos. I hope to highlight what we often choose to ignore. They are in being held in unnatural captivity yet we still choose to view them in a way that uses beauty to mask this.

So do you think it is ethical to take a nice photograph of an animal that is in captivity ?
