Wicked Moons is a photography exhibition for Women's History Month 2023, by 2nd-year BA Photography students at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London Metropolitan University. The exhibition is curated by Ania Dabrowska, Senior Lecturer in Photography and Critical & Contextual Studies.

Each time a girl opens a book and reads a womanless history, she learns she is worth less, Myra Pollack Sadke, a pioneer in the study of gender bias in schools, said, commemorating and encouraging a mandatory study and celebration of the role of women in history and society today.  At its best, art provides a space for one to inspire, experience, and amplify.  With this in mind, Wicked Moons articulates international, culturally diverse perspectives on the gravitational pull of their own female subjectivities, or that of their peers, mothers, families, and community members.  Works respond to the theme of the exhibition through a spectrum of photographic approaches, with analog, digital, blended, and expanded methodologies representing the emerging talent of the students and the course’s overarching philosophy.  The show is presented in the London Metropolitan University Goulston Street Library and across the Aldgate campus building.

The photographers in this show stand in solidarity with women across the world, as they consider our collective agency as makers and consumers of photography in challenging the darkness brought about by oppressive governments, wars, famines, violence, misogyny, patriarchy, abuse, and inequalities brutally evident and agitating our consciousness; presenting stories and attitudes that contemplate the power of female archetypes, strength, and resilience of minds, spirits, and bodies.
